Eval Motivation
There are 2 types of sales people…
There are 2 types of people in the world.. People who get what they want, hit the goal, the quote, get the girl/guy, hit their fitness goal, etc.
Person 1 - They hit their goal and they let off the gas. They breathe that sigh of relief when they hit the goal.
Person 2 - This person hits their goal and isn’t ready to quit but rather they are motivated by their win and want to keep winning.
In sports you see this a lot. Athletes who want to go pro work their whole life to get on a pro team and get a deal. There are two types though once they get the deal. The ones who think they have it made and then they just stop working when they do. Then there are people like MJ who got a deal and rather than taking it easy started working harder. You wanna be like MJ.
This happens a lot in dating too. I will use a guy chasing a girl for this example, but it can be the other way around too. Some guys work so hard to get a girls attention and the bust their ass to wow her. They take her out, show her off, cook her meals, and work hard to impress her. Then once it’s official they just stop. They don’t work anymore on taking their partner out. Then there are the dudes who do the same stuff but once they get the girl, they keep the dating up. They show off their partner and keep doing all the stuff that was so attractive to begin with.
As you can imagine this happens with fitness and weight loss too. People set a goal and bust their ass to get to the body they want. They diet and workout and take good care of themselves. Then once they get to their goal, they start taking time off, eating bad, etc. What happens their weight balloons again and they are back to step one. Then there are the people who are motivated by their change and momentum and they keep doing all the stuff it took to get there.
Now, let’s talk about sales. This happens ALL the time in sales and there are two types of sales people. There are people who hit their goal or quota and they breathe that sigh of relief. They feel the weight lifted. Then these same people towards the end of the month decide to start pushing deals to the following month to help with their next months quota. They don’t push as hard, because why would they do that? They hit their goal? THIS IS A LOSING MENTALITY… This attitude and train of thought is DANGEROUS. IT’S TOXIC. IT INFECTS THE WORKPLACE. IT KILLS MOMENTUM AND THE WINNERS MENTALITY.
Then there’s the second kind of sales person. The kind I hope you are. The kind that is hype n by hitting their quota. The kind who stomps the gas when they get their goal. These are the kinda people we want. This is the kind of person you need to become if you already aren’t there. This same mentality is infectious. People see you and they see your hustle and it either does one of two things. It either motivates them to be better. OR, it causes them to resent you. Because by you working hard, they feel the need to work harder.
The Navy Seals have a saying that “It pays to be a winner” and trust me, this is true. It really does pay to be a winner but the opposite is true. “It costs to be a loser.” I haven’t heard anyone say that quote directly but it’s true. The let off the gas mentality is a losing mentality and doesn’t last long here although it is widely accepted by society.
Let’s GET AFTER IT AND WIN.
