Language of Dogs
In dog training school, on Day 1 the first thing they had us all watch was the Language of Dog series. Why is it that at a dog training school that costs over $20k they made us watch this series first and foremost?
Because it’s that good.
Unlike humans, dogs are mostly non-verbal aka they don’t use words. Dogs do speak through audible cues sometimes, but the majority of what they say to us is said through their body language. If you want to be a dog trainer, you need to be able to look at a dog and see what she is saying to you.
What does their head position mean? What does their tail being up and down mean? What does a dog licking his lips mean? What does a dog looking at you from the side mean? Etc.
There are so many ways out dogs talk to us and without being trained how to see it, we’ll miss their cues and signals.
So, this is why they made us watch it on Day 1 at dog training school and why in your first week we’re getting you to watch it.
