Strategies For The Lead Trainer

You’ll have your hands full being the Lead Trainer of a team and over the year, we have complied some strategies that we think are helpful that we’ll show you here. Use these as you do your work to stay on top of it and run a great training organization!

LISTS, LISTS, LISTS! & More lists

LT- “Sally, I don’t know how I get everything that I do, done.”

Sally- “I know why! Because of all your lists!!”

From Ingrid: Our First Lead Trainer

This was included because Ingrid got SO much done. It’s easy to lose track of things when you’re doing a million things, managing people, etc. Lists look different for different folks, but for Ingrid it was a yellow legal notebook. That’s how she kept up with everything. For Corey, it’s a huge note in his phone categorized in different sections for training, marketing, sales, etc.

Ingrid originally wrote to write down every to-do, idea, helpful thought, etc. down to keep track of it. Details matter and they are very important in your position. Then the move from the list to the calendar so you actually have time to get those things done.

And, if you’re like Ingrid and Corey, there is no greater feeling than crossing items off a to-do list and getting a big project done!

Keep your Lead Trainer Checklist close and refer to it each day.

DELEGATING

Almost as important as lists is delegation… almost. If you are making am list and even if you are keeping up with it well, over time, it is going to pile up on you. It’s just the reality of work.

This is where delegation comes in. When your list piles up a bit too much, or even if a DP on your team just has some open spots, delegate some of the work you have to do to them. Make sure to follow the steps of delegation under the Cert 1.2 Leadership Communication section when you do this to make sure your DP is clear on the objective.

When you do start to delegate, one, you’ll feel a lot better. Two, you’ll be surprised how much your team actually likes to help and wants to help!

Celebrate Team Wins To Create MOMENTUM

If someone has done something great, celebrate them in a way that they would enjoy. Knowing your team member’s love languages can help with knowing how to celebrate each person. Generally speaking, if you celebrate that person or persons in public with the team on slack or at the team meeting, it usually keeps the momentum going AND it builds their love and passion for this job. Letting them know that all that they’re doing is not going un-noticed brings a smile to everyone’s face.

Your Own Clients

When you are managing others, it becomes easy to fall behind on managing your own work. It is important that you lead by example. If you are expecting your team to upload their homework texts, graduation pictures, check-in with their clients, update their AC, post their pictures on social media, then you should be doing the same. Everyone on the team is held to the same EXCELLENCE standard. This isn’t a long section. Just remember to keep all your client-facing duties up to date as well.
