Target Clients AKA Ideal Clients
Before jumping in, it is important to note that these are generalizations. While you’ll be able to put most of the people you meet with into a mold of some sort, they also overlap. So don’t expect these to be hard and fast designations of people, but rather generalizations of groups of people.
Target 1
Younger singles or couples in their mid to late twenties up to late 30’s.
These people typically don’t have actual children, instead their dog is the “kid”.
The refer to their dog as ‘people’. They say things like “he/she is like a human” OR “he/she is the type of person that”, etc.
While they know their dog is a dog in their hearts, they talk about their dog and think about their dog like it is a human.
They are “Dog Moms” and “Dog Dads” rather than a “Dog owner”. This is a title they claim proudly.
These people live more in the city.
They love their dog and want to take their dog everywhere and may actually take their dog lots of places, but they want it to go better. Their dog knows some basics with treats, but other than that he doesn’t know much. They don’t care about all the commands typically, they just want their dog to walk well, come off-leash, be able to go in public with them and to greet their friends well.
These people love hiking with their dogs, adventures, patios and breweries, etc.
Target 2
This is a more middle-aged type of client. They have kids and they are young to high school age. These people live more in the suburbs or a nicer part of the city. They love their dog but to them the dog is a dog and not a “kid”. They want to be able to walk their dog without pulling, have them off-leash and to not be embarrassed when they bring people over. They don’t care as much about going out in public with their dogs, though they may want to from time to time, this is not their top priority. They don’t care as much about their goals, they care more about the problems being solved. Their problems being solved are their goals. For example, they want their dog to walk well, but they want him to not pull more than they want their dog to heel.
Target 3
This is an ultra-wealthy client who loves their dog and wants a trained dog. They just don’t have the time OR they don’t want to take the time to get their dog trained. This type of client values their time more than their money and they pay for the privilege of having someone else do the work for them. Once again, they love their dogs, they just don’t want to do the training. These people care less about the out in public stuff and more so want the same stuff as Target 2. These people are great to work with and super low maintenance for the most part. You tell them it’s $X thousand and they write a check and don’t ask many questions.
